A Meditation Day Course at Atisha Buddhist Center
With Resident Teacher Deborah Corrigan
Saturday, April 19 at 9:30am - 2:00pm

On Saturday April 20, Deborah Corrigan will be leading a day workshop on one of the most inspiring drawings ever made - the Wheel of Life - a picture Buddha drew that encapsulates all his teachings in a single image. The image reveals all our different problems, where they really come from and how we can solve them. As Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso writes in Joyful Path of Good Fortune: "Even if we contemplate deeply the most sublime paintings and works of art we cannot gain benefits that compare with the benefits of contemplating and meditating on the Wheel of Life because this diagram reveals the complete path to liberation and full enlightenment."

Everyone is welcome. No previous experience is necessary.

Cost: $35 ( $20 students/limited income) and includes a delicious vegetarian lunch! Centre Cardholders receive a $25 discount off the regular course price.

What is the key to satisfying and stable relationships? This month we explore the Buddhist psychology of love and its practical application by continuing with the meditations based on the great Buddhist poem 8 Verses of Training the Mind and the commentary to this text, 8 Steps to Happiness by Geshes Kelsang Gyatso.

What is Meditation?
Meditation is a method for acquainting our mind with virtue. The more familiar our mind is with virtue, the calmer and more peaceful it becomes. When our mind is peaceful we are free from worries and mental discomfort, and we experience true happiness. If we train our mind to become peaceful we shall be happy all the time, even in the most adverse conditions but if our mind is not peaceful, then even if we have the most pleasant external conditions we shall not be happy.

In these classes we will explore simple meditations to achieve peaceful  and happy states of mind.

Atisha Buddhist Centre
Thursdays, 7 - 9 pm

'Lamrim' literally means 'the stages of the path'. It is a special arrangement of all Buddha's teachings that is easy to understand and put into practice. Lamrim reveals all the states of the path to enlightenment.

This course will progress through the 21 meditations that constitute the lamrim and will introduce the Buddhist prayers for meditation which prepare our minds for our formal meditation. No prior experience is required, and you may join this course at anytime.
